Dr. Akemi Motomura, O.D
Dr. Akemi Motomura received her Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Science from the University of Guelph, and then went on to complete her Doctor of Optometry degree at the University of Waterloo. During her final year of optometry school, she completed internships that allowed her to gain experience in primary care, ocular disease, pediatrics, contact lenses, binocular vision/vision therapy and low vision.
Dr. Motomura enjoys seeing patients of all ages and dabbles in all areas of optometry, but has a special interest in myopia management. She wishes that myopia management was more widely available when she was growing up, but she is excited to be part of trying to slow down the myopia ‘epidemic’ that is occurring worldwide. Dr. Motomura hopes to spread the message that myopia management is not only to prevent thick and expensive glasses, but most importantly to decrease the risk of potential serious eye conditions in patients when they grow up.
Dr. Motomura is a member of the Ontario Association of Optometrists, Canadian Association of Optometrists and the College of Optometrists of Ontario.
In her spare time, Dr. Motomura enjoys baking everything from cookies to bread to pies. She also loves spending time with her family, friends and her family greyhounds, Darcy and Ellie
